4th of July

Last year, the kids and I spent the 4th of July at the Atlantic Ocean. This year we spent the day at the Pacific Ocean.
We went to Rialto Beach and hiked a 3 mile loop to Hole In The Wall. We started our hike at low tide so that the kids could play in the tidal pools. It was a sunny, but breezy 60 degrees.

After the beach On our way back from Hole In The Wall, the tide was coming in and the water was very rough. We warned the kids to stay away because the water was so strong. Steitler was looking at a rock, with his back to the water as a huge wave knocked him on his face. I was 2 steps away from him but the wave pulled him out so fast that by the time I got to him, I was in over my knees. He was slightly traumatized but now has a very healthy respect for the ocean. He was soaking wet and was wearing denim shorts so every step he took was chapping his legs. He was scared and in pain which is the only reason that he got this sweet ride for the last mile of our hike.

Maddie's favorite part of the day - sea stars! We saw at least 200 starfish.
